Built on Country, Focused on Delivery: MDM at the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition 2026

On 16 and 17 September, the MDM Mining & Civil team travelled from the Kimberley to Perth to exhibit at the 2026 WA Mining Conference & Exhibition one of Western Australia's key gatherings for miners, contractors, suppliers and government.

Stand K227 gave us two full days of conversations with the people who plan, build and close the mines that drive our state.

Why we were there

Most of MDM's work happens a long way from a convention centre. Our crews deliver earthworks, mine development, rehabilitation and civil infrastructure in some of the most remote parts of Australia, and our reputation has been built on site, project by project, client by client.

The WA Mining Conference & Exhibition gave us the chance to bring that story to Perth and to show the wider industry what a 100% Indigenous-owned contractor, based in Kununurra, is delivering across Northern Australia

What we brought to the stand

Our stand was designed around two simple lines that sum up how we work:

Built on Country. We're a Kimberley business, owned and led by Indigenous people, employing locally and working on Country with respect.

Focused on Delivery. Clients choose us because we finish what we start — safely, on programme and to specification, even in remote and challenging conditions.

Across the stand we showcased our core capabilities:

We also shared recent project highlights, including the Smoke Creek abandoned mine rehabilitation for the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE), completed ahead of schedule, our crushing and screening works at Sorby Hills, and ongoing closure works at the Argyle Diamond Mine.

The conversations that mattered

Over two days we met mine owners, tier-one contractors, engineering firms, suppliers and job seekers. A few themes came up again and again:

Closure and rehabilitation are moving up the agenda. More operators are planning for closure earlier in the mine life, and they want contractors who understand landform design, erosion control and progressive rehabilitation — not just bulk earthmoving.

Indigenous participation needs to be real. Procurement teams are looking beyond targets to contractors who are genuinely Indigenous-owned and who create lasting local jobs. Our local and Indigenous employment numbers sparked plenty of discussion.

Remote capability is hard to find. Mobilising people and equipment to the Kimberley, the Pilbara and the Northern Territory — and keeping them productive through the wet season — is a genuine differentiator.

People want to work with us. We had a steady stream of operators, supervisors and tradespeople asking about opportunities with MDM. If that's you, see our current opportunities or use Quick Apply.

Thank you

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by Stand K227, to the event organisers, and to our crew who kept projects running back home while part of the team was in Perth.

What's next

We're following up on the conversations started at the expo and continuing to grow our capability across mine development, civil works and rehabilitation. If we didn't get a chance to chat, we'd still love to hear about your next project.
